Terms of use

Hoot Learning Academy is an educational practice app for children in kindergarten through grade 5, worked on with a parent or caregiver. It is a learning aid and a prototype: it is not a school, a therapy service, or a replacement for a teacher, and we don't promise any particular grade or outcome.

Children should use the app alongside a grown-up who decides what's suitable. The grown-up who creates the account is responsible for the account's use and for keeping their password safe.

• Accounts are for grown-ups aged 18 or over. Kids never need one to play.
• Learner profiles use a creative nickname and an avatar — please don't enter a child's real name, photo, school or other identifying details.
• One parent account covers one learner on Basic and Plus, and up to three learners on Family.
• Please don't share your account with other households or resell access.

Every grade can try one activity in each world free. Basic unlocks every activity in one learning world the grown-up picks. Plus and Family unlock every activity in all four worlds. The Writing Coach comes with Plus (up to 30 suggestions a month) and Family (up to 90), and each month's count starts again on the first of the month. We may change plans, prices and limits — we'll say so on the plans page.

Plans are billed monthly or yearly until cancelled. Cancel any time from your billing page and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Changing plans goes through the same billing page. See the refund policy for money back.

Please don't:

• try to break into, disable or overload the app, or use it to reach other people's data;
• paste other people's work, or personal details about a child, into the Writing Coach;
• copy and resell the activities, stories or artwork;
• use the app for anything unlawful or harmful.

The Coach's suggestions come from an AI model. They can be wrong, odd or unsuitable for your child, so a grown-up should read them before passing them on. They are not professional teaching or speech-and-language advice.

This is a prototype, so features may appear, change or disappear without much notice, and the app may be paused for repairs. We'd rather tell you on the Grown-ups' Corner page when we can.

The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect or accidental loss from using it — and nothing here limits rights you can't give up.

Which state's law applies hasn't been decided yet, and will be added here before launch.
